Card’s Corner #3

Hey Badger Fans!

It is finally here, the team is traveling to the Big Apple, New York City. The meet will take place at the famous Armory Indoor Track Facility. I unfortunately will not be traveling to the meet however, but I know my teammates will have so much fun. I have gone to New York the previous two years and had an amazing time. Our hotel is only a couple blocks away from Times Square as well as countless other sights and sounds. Although our training and competition comes first, we are usually lucky enough to have some free time to explore the places we travel to. Last year some of my teammates went to shows on Broadway and visited the 9/11 Memorial. My fellow throwers and I wandered through Central Park and went ice skating (don’t worry, we were very careful). We also got to explore some delicious eats in the city; my favorite was a wood fired pizza place we went to after the competition. It was all you could eat and needless to say, the throwers were only almost matched by the distance crew; it was a carb overload!

Our multi-event athletes had some amazing performances at the University of Northern Iowa this past weekend. Georgia Ellenwood led the ladies and Zach Ziemke led an amazing line up for our male athletes. The athletes also had the opportunity to meet former president Bill Clinton as he was in town and staying at their hotel for the Iowa Caucasus.

I cannot believe it is already February, time flies during track season. It was nice to have a weekend off last weekend, but we are still pushing fairly hard with our training in order to peak at the right times for conference and beyond.  Even with all this snow and precipitation we have been having, I am itching to get back outside and throw in the sunshine.

I know this is another short entry, but I will hopefully have good things to report from my teammates that are competing at the Armory this weekend. I will also be previewing the Iowa State meet in next weeks post.

Have a great week Badger Fans!
Kelsey
