Hey Badger Fans!
My name is Kelsey Card, and I am a redshirt senior thrower on the Women’s Track and Field team. In the indoor season I compete in the shot put and the weight throw and in the outdoor season I throw the shot put and the discus.
After training hard all fall, we had a bit of a break for the winter holiday season and then we came back two weeks ago to start up our second semester workouts. Not quite everyone comes back because some people are injured and others will not compete until the outdoor season. While it was sad to leave my family, it was good to come back to Madison and get some serious work in.
We just completed our first meet of the indoor season this past weekend with a win in a dual against Notre Dame. The final score from the meet was 73-62, with us taking nine of the fifteen events. The women’s side had some very strong performances. Our two redshirt freshman throwers Kennedy Blahnik and Banke Oginni opened up their badger careers with some serious personal bests! The team also saw strong performances from Georgia Ellenwood. She came close to her personal bests in the high jump and 60-meter hurdles. We also had highlights in several other events areas.
Next weekend we travel to Minnesota to take on the Gophers in another dual meet. Last year they came down here to Madison and they took the crown on our home turf in the Shell. I feel like the team will really come together and be able to get it back this weekend. In addition to our first away meet, school also starts back up again this week. It has been really nice to not have school to worry about while training over break, but this is my last semester, so it is exciting to be almost done.
I look forward to keeping you updated with Badger Track and Field news over the semester.
Thank you and stay warm!
Kelsey Card
